Royal Enfield Dec Sales: Rides Export Wave, Domestic Sales Sees A Dip

Royal Enfield reported mixed sales numbers for December 2023, with domestic sales declining but exports improving compared to last year.

Royal Enfield's total domestic sales declined 4.23% year-on-year (YoY) to 57,291 units in December 2023 compared to 59,821 units in December 2022. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, domestic sales fell sharply by 23.75% from 75,137 units sold in November 2023. The 350cc motorcycles continued to account for the bulk of domestic sales.

Classic 350 Leads Domestic Sales Chart
The Classic 350 remained the top seller in December 2023 with sales of 21,234 units, up 2.67% YoY. However, on a MoM basis, Classic 350 sales fell 29.84% from 30,264 units in November 2023. The Bullet 350 saw a 3.36% YoY growth but a 27.75% MoM decline to 12,607 units. Models like the Hunter 350 and Meteor 350 posted de-growth both annually and monthly.
Himalayan Shines With 50% Growth
A key highlight was the Himalayan which saw a massive 50.91% YoY jump in domestic sales to 3,406 units in December 2023. This indicates the new 2023 Himalayan has received an encouraging response. Himalayan sales in November 2023 stood at 1,814 units. In the over 500cc segment, the 650 Twins saw a 44.32% YoY growth despite a 23% MoM fall. The Super Meteor continued to see tepid demand with sales of just 643 units.
Exports Up 29% YoY, 650 Twins Lead the Way
Royal Enfield exports grew 28.94% YoY to 6,096 units in December 2023 compared to 8,579 units in December 2022. On a MoM basis, exports were up 19.20% over November 2023. The 650 Twins drove export growth with shipments surging 368% YoY to 1,597 units.
This made the 650 Twins the top exported model in December 2023 with a 26% share. Other models like the Classic 350, Meteor 350 and Himalayan saw a decline in exports compared to last year.
New Launches Lined Up for 2024-25
Going forward, Royal Enfield is gearing up to expand its 650cc range with new launches like the Classic 650, Bullet 650 and Himalayan 650 expected over 2024-25. The company recently commenced production of its Shotgun 650 cruiser.
