With the Himalayan EV concept, Royal Enfield has confirmed its plans for electric mobility. However, it is not the final product but serves as a test bed.
- The Royal Enfield Himalayan EV test bed features an in-house developed battery pack.
- Technical specifications are under wraps for now, with the motorcycle serving just as a test mule for electric powertrains and components.
- The electric Himalayan was showcased alongside the all-new Himalayan 452, with its bookings now open in India.
As planned, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 made its global debut at the EICMA 2023. However, the brand pulled off a surprise by unveiling its secret project, the Himalayan EV test bed. It is this motorcycle that is being used by Royal Enfield as a platform for the development of the first-ever electric motorcycle by the brand.
Like the all-new Himalayan, the bookings of which have officially begun in India, the Royal Enfield Himalayan electric prototype has a lean and tall stance typical of an adventure motorcycle. The motorcycle on display was a raw test mule with a curved seat, exposed battery pack, dual-purpose tyres spoke wheels, and aluminum rear swingarm. However, Royal Enfield hasn’t revealed the technical specifications of the Himalayan EV test mule.
According to Royal Enfield, this particular test mule has been under trial runs for the last 18 months and has gone through extensive wind tunnel testing to lower its drag coefficient. The motorcycle is seen with an in-house developed battery, which is a structural element of the motorcycle’s frame.
Royal Enfield is using this test mule of the Himalayan electric (nicknamed Him-E) for testing the electric powertrains and components, the final version of which will be in the brand’s first electric motorcycle.
