In terms of engine, the Versys 650 has been pretty much unchanged

  • Underpinnings on the Versys 650 include a monoshock and an inverted fork
  • Design wise too, the Versys 650 has been pretty much the same ever since its inception
  • In fact, it still looks a bit too similar to its older sibling, the Versys 1000

In recent times, the Indian market has witnessed a proliferation of adventure tourers, particularly in the middleweight segment. Among these, the 2024 iteration of the Kawasaki Versys 650 demands attention. For enthusiasts intrigued by this bike, here are five essential aspects to consider:

2024 Kawasaki Versys 650: Design

In 2015, Kawasaki ushered in a significant styling update for the Versys 650, retiring the vertically-stacked, alien-esque headlight assembly in favour of a twin-pod setup. The 2024 model, however, represents more of an evolution than a revolution from its 2021 counterpart. Retaining the twin-pod headlight, the 2024 Versys 650 draws inspiration from the Versys 1000, lending it a distinct identity compared to its predecessor.

Moreover, the front fascia receives a makeover, accompanied by a revamped windscreen setup boasting a user-friendly adjustment mechanism, albeit not as sophisticated as competitors like the Ducati Multistrada or Triumph Tiger range.

2024 Kawasaki Versys 650: Features

The 2024 iteration boasts all-LED lighting, bringing it in line with industry standards. Additionally, a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display adds a modern touch and offers improved readability. Kawasaki has also bolstered the rider safety package with a two-level traction control system, affording riders the option to deactivate it entirely if desired. While these features sound promising, their real-world performance warrants scrutiny.

Despite the upgrades, the LED lighting remains somewhat lacking, and the comprehensive TFT display, while feature-rich, lacks essential functionalities like call alerts and music controls. Navigating through the menu can also prove cumbersome, requiring some acclimatization.

2024 Kawasaki Versys 650: Engine

At the core of the 2024 Versys 650 lies the proven 649cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine familiar from previous models. Although shared with other Kawasaki models like the Ninja 650 and Z650, the Versys 650 receives a bespoke state of tune. Delivering 67PS at 8,500rpm and 61Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, the parallel-twin engine offers linear power delivery, with a noticeable surge in acceleration beyond 4,000rpm.

The six-speed gearbox complements the engine's performance, facilitating swift overtakes. However, the clutch, while effective, lacks the feather-light feel desired in stop-and-go traffic scenarios.

2024 Kawasaki Versys 650: Underpinnings

The braking system remains unchanged from the previous model, featuring twin 300mm front rotors and a single 250mm rear disc, gripped by Nissin calipers. This setup provides confident braking performance, ensuring rapid deceleration when needed.

Despite its adventure-inspired aesthetics, the Versys 650 is primarily designed for road use, boasting 17-inch alloy wheels that enhance its agility on paved surfaces. While its road-oriented tires may lack in wet grip, the motorcycle's handling remains sporty around corners and stable at higher speeds. Though not optimized for off-roading, the tall handlebar and ergonomic design allow for some mild off-road exploration.

2024 Kawasaki Versys 650: Price

Kawasaki has priced the 2024 Versys 650 at a reasonable Rs 7.77 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The Kawasaki Versys 650 stands out as a top contender in the middleweight motorcycle segment of the Indian market. Boasting an impressive road presence, a spirited engine, and a host of practical features, it offers a compelling package for riders.

Despite its enhanced features and updated design, the 2024 Versys 650 remains competitively priced compared to its counterparts, adding to its allure as a desirable option for buyers.

While it's true that tall riders may find the windblast protection lacking and the headlight performance somewhat inadequate, along with the absence of Bluetooth features, these shortcomings are not deal-breakers. With the option to address some of these issues through aftermarket accessories, the Versys 650 remains an attractive choice for riders seeking a sub-Rs 10 lakh (on-the-road price) motorcycle.
