Hero Xoom 160: What To Expect From The ADV-Like Scooter

Featured Stories by Team Drivio | Mar 16, 2024

In terms of design, the Hero Xoom 160 looks like nothing else on the market

  • It will be India’s first ever ADV-like styling scooter
  • We expect the scooter to be priced around the Rs 1.45 lakh mark, ex-showroom
  • Rivals for the Xoom 160 will include the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR160

Liquid-cooled scooters remain a rarity, particularly within markets like India. Therefore, when brands with a relatively conservative ethos, such as Hero, venture into this realm, it inevitably garners attention. The impending arrival of Hero's Xoom 160, a visually appealing scooter unveiled at EICMA 2023, holds significant anticipation as it prepares to make its debut on Indian shores.

Presented below is a comprehensive overview detailing all pertinent aspects of this flagship model from Hero, characterized by its ADV scooter-inspired styling:

Largest engine in a Hero scooter!

Hero is not exactly known for making large-capacity bikes, let alone making large-capacity scooters. So the Xoom 160’s engine comes as a pleasant surprise. Giving us an even bigger surprise, the new 156cc is actually a liquid-cooled one, something we have never really seen in scooters in India except the likes of the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the much more expensive BMW C 400 GT. It clearly shows Hero’s steps towards making more performance-oriented two-wheelers in recent times.

While Hero has not revealed how much power and torque the Xoom 160 makes, we think it should be in the ballpark of its direct rival, the Yamaha Aerox 155, which makes a respectable 15PS and 13.9Nm. This is from its 155cc liquid-cooled engine that is derived from the very lovable Yamaha R15 V4. In sum, it will definitely be very exciting to pit the Xoom 160 against the Yamaha Aerox 155.

Looks absolutely incredible!

Now while we thought the Yamaha Aerox was a good-looking scooter, the Xoom 160 has changed our perceptions. The Xoom 160’s adventure scooter-like styling looks absolutely incredible. The big beak up front and a large wind screen makes it look rugged and ready to take on all the roads that it faces. Combine that to the aggressive-looking LED headlight and you have the perfect scooter to take on the likes of the Honda ADV 160, at least in terms of looks.

So for all of us who have been wanting an adventure scooter in India for the longest part, we would be very happy Hero has decided to bring something of that sort for us.

Premium kit on offer as well

Accompanying the premium looking design and engine, the Xoom 160 will come with better kit as well. The telescopic fork and monoshock, both could have some amount of adjustability. We are sure the monoshock will definitely have at least preload adjustability. And that should mean riders of different weights and sizes should find themselves to be quite comfortable on the Xoom 160.

Not only that, we are happy to report that the Xoom 160 will even get ABS, something we think is a must on all two wheelers in India. Accompanying that are the big 14 inch wheels that should ideally make the Xoom 160 more stable as well as give it better ride quality than scooters with 12 or even 10 inch wheels.

Should pack plenty of features too

While Hero has not revealed more details about the features that the Xoom 160 will come with, we think it will get a fully digital console and Bluetooth connectivity will be standard as well. Something we would love to see on the Xoom 160 would definitely be it getting turn-by-turn navigation as standard. Navigation is a very important feature when commuting around nowadays and makes for a nifty feature, especially on a bike or scooter that you would be using pretty much every day.

Expected price and rivals

Now of course, with all of the premium kit on offer, the Hero Xoom 160 will not come cheap. That said, considering how well Hero prices its products, we think Hero will still keep it under the Rs 1.50 lakh mark, ex-showroom. Hence, we think its price could be around the Rs 1.45 lakh mark.

Hero Xoom Expected Price (ex-showroom Delhi)
Xoom 160Rs 1.45 lakh

And hence once here, the Xoom 160 will rival other sporty scooters in this segment like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Aprilia SXR 160, two scooters we have quite enjoyed riding.
