Brand-by-Brand Breakdown
1. TVS Motor — Best Month Ever
TVS crossed 52,500 units in July, beating its own previous record of roughly 51,600 units set in March 2026. Year-on-year, the company's electric scooter sales have more than doubled, powered largely by the iQube range and the newer Orbiter. TVS now commands more than a quarter of the entire EV two-wheeler market, and its lead over the rest of the field keeps widening.
2. Bajaj Auto — Steady at Number Two
Bajaj held on to second place with just over 43,600 units, roughly flat compared to June but still up sharply from a year ago. The Chetak range, spread across multiple variants, continues to be the brand's main volume driver, and Bajaj's market share has held near 22-23% for several months running.
3. Ather Energy — A Rare Dip
Ather slipped by about 8% month-on-month to roughly 28,800 units, even though its year-on-year growth remains strong. The company holds firmly onto third place, but the decline is one of the sharper monthly drops among the top players this year.
4. Hero MotoCorp (Vida) — Consistent Fourth Place
Hero's Vida range logged a modest month-on-month dip but is still up strongly compared to last year. Vida has held the fourth spot for several consecutive months now, comfortably ahead of Ola Electric.
5. Ola Electric — Still Losing Ground
Ola remains the weakest performer among the major brands, with sales down both from June and from the same month last year. Once the volume leader of the EV two-wheeler segment, Ola has now settled into fifth place, well behind Hero Vida, as rivals convert their retail networks and after-sales trust into steady month-on-month gains.
6. Greaves Electric Mobility — A Softer Month
Greaves saw an 11%+ month-on-month decline but remains comfortably in the top six, holding around a 5% market share.
7. River Mobility (Indie) — Standout Growth
River posted one of the strongest month-on-month jumps in the entire top 10, growing close to 25% and moving up the rankings on the back of expanding dealership reach.
8. BGauss — Fastest Grower in the Top 10
BGauss recorded the single-largest month-on-month growth rate of any brand in the top 10, at nearly 34%, signaling rapid momentum for the challenger brand.
9. Simple Energy — Building Momentum
Simple Energy continues to grow steadily, now edging past the 1,500-unit mark for the month, with an upcoming affordable scooter launch expected to push volumes further later in the year.
10. Lectrix EV — New Entrant in the Top 10
Lectrix EV cracked the top 10 for the first time this year, growing nearly 23% month-on-month.
How Big Is India's EV Two-Wheeler Market Now?
July 2026 was one of the strongest months ever for electric two-wheelers in India, trailing only the all-time high set in March 2026 and the near-record set in June 2026. The segment has now crossed the symbolic 10-lakh-units-in-a-year mark well ahead of previous years' pace, and EV penetration within the overall two-wheeler industry is holding above the 10% mark — a threshold the category only broke through for the first time in mid-2026.
Why Is TVS Pulling Ahead?
TVS's growth has been driven by a broad, multi-price-point lineup — the mass-market iQube alongside the value-focused Orbiter — that lets it compete across budget segments rather than relying on a single flagship model. Combined with an expanding dealer network inherited from its petrol-scooter business, this has let TVS convert broader retail reach into consistent month-on-month gains.
Why Are Ola Electric and Ather Losing Ground?
Ola's decline has been the most talked-about trend in the segment through 2026, as legacy two-wheeler manufacturers like TVS, Bajaj and Hero lean on their existing dealer and service networks to win over first-time EV buyers who prioritize after-sales trust. Ather's July dip is milder and comes after a period of strong growth, and the brand remains firmly in third place — but the month-on-month drop is a reminder that even established EV-first brands aren't immune to swings as the market matures and legacy players scale up.
What About Electric Motorcycles?
Electric motorcycles remain a much smaller category than electric scooters in India, but it's growing fast — industry estimates put the full-year 2026 volume at over a lakh units. Ultraviolette continues to lead on the performance side, Revolt remains the go-to for affordable commuter e-motorcycles, and legacy motorcycle brands are beginning to test the waters with their own electric models. Monthly brand-wise data for this category is far less granular than for scooters, so most trend-tracking here is still done on a quarterly or yearly basis.
