Ather 450X’s 15 hours Charging Time Will Soon Reduce Significantly

News by Team Drivio | 21 Apr 2023

The electric mobility brand is working on a solution on the basis of the feedback it’s gotten from the customers.

  • The Ather 450X’s base trim still has the 6.4kW (peak power) motor.
  • It has a 90kmph claimed top speed.
  • Its rivals include the Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube and the Hero Vida V1.

The new Ather 450X without the Pro-pack makes sense for someone searching for a straightforward, easy-to-use e-scooter for daily use. Many of the 450X's features are frills that may be skipped, especially given how much less expensive it has gotten (450X without Pro-pack - Rs 98,183 (ex-showroom Delhi Including FAME 2).

This trim, however, has a longer home-charging time. Following customer comments, Ather will endeavour to address this as soon as possible, maybe in a future update. This model lacks fast charging and hence takes 15 hours to fully charge from zero using a home charger.

Tarun Mehta, Ather's CEO, also tweeted about it. While his tweet did not specify when the solution will be available, he did indicate that it would not be cheap. If Ather can correct the super-long charging time while keeping the expense of convenience under control, the 450X (without the Pro-pack) will retain its value-for-money argument despite a minor price increase.

The Ather 450X with the Pro Pack charges in roughly 5 hours and 40 minutes with a home charger, which is a significant improvement. Furthermore, it allows fast charging via the Ather Grid 2.0. We expect that rather than denying base variant 450X users access to the Ather Grid, Ather will make the service available on a fee basis. This will not only provide the brand with extra revenue opportunities, but will also provide customers with greater ease.

With a starting price of Rs 98,079, the 450X base model is a genuinely appealing EV product at a comparable price point to a petrol-powered scooter.
