Kawasaki Versys-X 300 Re-Launched in India at ₹3.80 Lakh — Specs, Features, Rivals
News by Team Drivio | 22 May 2025
India Kawasaki Motors has made a significant move in the entry-level adventure touring segment by re-launching the Kawasaki Versys-X 300. The 2025 model, now OBD-2B compliant, arrives with a surprisingly aggressive ex-showroom (Delhi) price tag of ₹3.80 lakh. This marks a substantial reduction from its previous BS4 iteration (which was priced around ₹4.69 lakh), positioning it as a more compelling rival against established players like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure.
The Versys-X 300, known for its smooth parallel-twin engine and versatile capabilities, was discontinued with the advent of BS6 emission norms. Its return is set to excite enthusiasts looking for a capable, lightweight adventure tourer with a twin-cylinder heart. Bookings for the motorcycle have commenced across Kawasaki dealerships, with deliveries anticipated to begin in June 2025. Despite earlier speculations about local assembly, the Versys-X 300 will currently be brought in as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
Speaking about the re-introduction, a spokesperson for India Kawasaki Motors highlighted the growing demand for accessible adventure motorcycles in the country. "The Versys-X 300 has always been appreciated for its unique proposition – a refined twin-cylinder engine in an adventure-ready package. With the updated OBD-2B compliant engine and a more attractive price point, we are confident that the 2025 Versys-X 300 will resonate strongly with Indian riders looking for a versatile and reliable adventure companion."
What's New and What Stays the Same?
The 2025 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 retains its characteristic adventure styling, featuring a tall windscreen, a single-pod halogen headlamp, a semi-fairing for wind protection, an upswept exhaust, and a practical rear luggage rack. For the new iteration, Kawasaki is offering two fresh dual-tone colour schemes:
- Candy Lime Green / Metallic Flat Spark Black
- Metallic Ocean Blue / Pearl Robotic White
Under the skin, the biggest update is the engine's compliance with the latest OBD-2B emission standards. It continues to be powered by the 296cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve, parallel-twin engine, which it shares with the Ninja 300. This motor is tuned to produce approximately 40 PS (38.5 bhp) of power at 11,500 RPM and around 25.7 Nm to 26.1 Nm of torque at 10,000 RPM. The engine is paired with a smooth 6-speed gearbox featuring an assist and slipper clutch for lighter clutch action and better control during aggressive downshifts.
The chassis is a high-tensile steel backbone frame, providing a balance of rigidity and agility. Suspension duties are handled by:
- Front: 41mm telescopic forks with 130mm of travel.
- Rear: Bottom-link Uni-Trak gas-charged monoshock with 148mm of travel and preload adjustability.
The Versys-X 300 rides on adventure-ready wire-spoke wheels – a 19-inch unit at the front and a 17-inch one at the rear – shod with tube-type tyres. Braking is managed by petal disc brakes at both ends (290mm front, 220mm rear) and is equipped with dual-channel ABS for enhanced safety.
In terms of dimensions and rider ergonomics, the Versys-X 300 offers an accessible seat height of 815mm, a capable ground clearance of 180mm, and a 17-litre fuel tank for decent touring range. The kerb weight is reported to be around 184 kg.
Features and Competition
While the Versys-X 300 scores high on engine refinement and touring capability, its features list remains relatively basic compared to some of its more modern rivals. It comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster that includes an analogue tachometer and a multi-function LCD screen displaying a gear position indicator, fuel gauge, trip meters, and other essential information. However, it misses out on modern touches like full LED lighting (it continues with a halogen headlamp) and a TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation. Kawasaki does offer a range of optional touring accessories, including panniers, knuckle guards, fog lamps, and a center stand to enhance its long-distance credentials.
The re-launched Kawasaki Versys-X 300 enters a fiercely competitive segment. Its primary rivals include:
- Royal Enfield Himalayan 450: Known for its rugged simplicity and off-road prowess, priced significantly lower.
- KTM 390 Adventure: Offers more advanced features, a more powerful single-cylinder engine, and is priced slightly lower (around ₹3.68 lakh for the standard variant).
- BMW G 310 GS: Another premium entry-level ADV with a single-cylinder engine.
- Yezdi Adventure: A more budget-friendly option.
The Versys-X 300's key differentiator remains its smooth and rev-happy parallel-twin engine, which offers a distinct riding experience compared to the single-cylinder units of most of its competitors. The new, more attractive pricing makes it a stronger contender for riders prioritizing engine refinement and Kawasaki's proven reliability in their adventure touring machine.
