KTM RC 160 Launched in India at Rs. 1.85 Lakh – Specs & Review
by | 8 Jan 2026
KTM India has officially launched the KTM RC 160 in the Indian market with a starting price of Rs. 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the smallest fully-faired sportbike in the brand’s supersport lineup. Positioned just below the RC 200, the RC 160 brings KTM’s trademark “Ready To Race” design and performance ethos to a more accessible segment for young riders and enthusiasts alike.
Engine & Performance
At the heart of the KTM RC 160 is a 164.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, borrowed directly from its sibling, the 160 Duke. Tuned for sporty performance, this motor produces around 18.7 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm, paired to a six-speed gearbox with assist & slipper clutch for smoother shifts and reduced rear-wheel hop under downshifts. KTM claims a top speed of approximately 118 km/h, making it competitive with other 160cc performance motorcycles in India.
The fully-faired bodywork and aggressive riding posture differentiate the RC 160 from its naked sibling, giving riders a more committed track-inspired experience. The engine’s high-revving character and responsive throttle make urban commuting and highway cruising both engaging and fun.
Chassis & Handling
Built on KTM’s signature trellis frame, the RC 160 boasts a sporty and nimble chassis setup. Up front, 37 mm inverted USD forks and a rear monoshock provide planted handling with good feedback, helping riders exploit the bike’s sporty intent on twisty roads. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc, bolstered by a dual-channel ABS system for confident stopping power. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with performance-oriented tyres, further enhancing grip and agility.
The aerodynamic fairing not only improves the RC 160’s visual appeal but also aids in reducing rider fatigue at speed by offering some wind protection, a clear advantage over naked bikes in its class.
Technology & Features
KTM has equipped the RC 160 with modern essentials expected in this segment. A digital LCD instrument cluster provides clear readouts of speed, RPM, gear position and more. Full LED lighting enhances visibility while adding to the premium feel. The inclusion of an assist & slipper clutch and user-friendly ergonomics aligns well with both spirited riding and daily use.
Though detailed connectivity features vary by variant, the core electronics package ensures riders get a competent mix of style and utility.
Conclusion
The KTM RC 160 stands out as an appealing entry-level fully-faired sportbike in India, blending aggressive design, credible performance, and modern features at a competitive price point. It directly challenges rivals like the Yamaha R15 while offering a distinctive KTM edge with its “Ready To Race” DNA and sharp handling. Ideal for young riders and enthusiasts seeking a sporty yet usable motorcycle, the RC 160 presents a strong value proposition in the sub-200cc segment.
