2024 Yamaha Aerox 155: What’s New?

Reviews by Team Drivio | Apr 20, 2024

The biggest update for Aerox is the new smart key system

  • As for its engine, the R15-derived engine has been unchanged
  • The Aerox 155 is one of India’s few scooters to get traction control
  • The smart key will also allow you to remotely unlock your Aerox 155

Yamaha has recently unveiled the latest version of its Yamaha Aerox 155, known as the Aerox version S. This upgraded variant boasts a smart key system and an array of supplementary features. Let's delve into what sets it apart from the 2023 Aerox 155.

Aerox Features:

The standout feature of this updated version is undoubtedly the smart key system, which introduces a plethora of new functionalities. Foremost among these is the proximity unlock feature, streamlining the scooter's startup process by eliminating the need for a manual key. This enhancement simplifies the rider's experience and eliminates the associated hassles. Additionally, Yamaha has incorporated an immobilizer that automatically locks the scooter when the smart key moves out of range, enhancing security measures.

Furthermore, the inclusion of a call back feature adds another layer of convenience. By simply pressing a button, the scooter's blinkers will flash, accompanied by a buzzing sound, facilitating easy location retrieval, particularly in crowded parking areas.

Aerox Price:

Vehicle NamePrice (Ex-showroom Delhi)
Yamaha Aerox 155Rs 1,47,300 onwards

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is offered in three distinct variants: Standard, S, and Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition. The Standard variant presents a choice of four vibrant colour options: Metallic Black, Racing Blue, Silver, and Grey Vermillion, with a price tag of Rs. 1,47,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Conversely, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition commands a slightly higher price of Rs. 1,48,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Introducing the new S variant, equipped with the smart key system, priced at Rs. 1,50,600 (ex-showroom Delhi), and available in two captivating colours: Silver and Racing Blue.

What has remained unchanged?

Motor

Yamaha hasn’t tinkered around with the Aerox’s engine. The Aerox boasts a liquid-cooled, 4-valve 155cc engine, closely related to the R15's powerplant, and features VVA technology akin to its sporty counterpart. While it may have sacrificed a few horsepower compared to the R15, it remains one of the swiftest accelerating scooters in the market. Although it lacks the instantaneous torque of an electric vehicle, once in motion, it accelerates swiftly and consistently, maintaining momentum until reaching triple-digit speeds. Few scooters in its segment can match its performance capabilities.

Design

Another thing that hasn’t changed is the scooter’s design. The Aerox is making waves in the scooter realm, not only with its liquid-cooled engine but also with its distinctive design. Its step-through layout immediately sets it apart from the sea of flat floorboards in India. While this unique format may deter some seeking practicality, it's hard to deny the Aerox's striking appearance.

Boasting sculpted bodywork and aggressive LED headlights, the Aerox sports a fittingly menacing front end to complement its sporty demeanour. With 14-inch wheels wrapped in chunky tyres, a robust exhaust system, and twin rear shock absorbers, the Aerox commands attention on the road despite its lightweight of 126kg kerb weight.

Upon closer inspection, there are areas for improvement. While some aspects like the switchgear and bodywork exude quality, others such as the flimsy fuel filler flap and uneven floormats leave something to be desired. Inconsistent panel gaps and shut lines further detract from the scooter's overall polish, prompting Yamaha to address these issues given the Aerox's positioning in the market.

Should you buy the 2024 Yamaha Aerox 155?

Yamaha has made a bold move by introducing the Aerox 155 in India, recognising that it may not dominate the sales charts. However, Yamaha understands its market positioning well. Despite this, the Aerox 155 holds considerable potential for success on its own terms. It offers swift and convenient urban commuting, courtesy of its potent engine and effortless CVT transmission.

Additionally, its ample underseat storage sets it apart from motorcycles in terms of convenience. The scooter remains comfortable even on highways and provides an enjoyable experience on winding roads. If these qualities resonate with you, then the Aerox deserves consideration for your next purchase. Priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it offers excellent value for money.
