Earlier this year, Matter EV introduced its first electric bike for India, the Matter, and its sporty, aggressive appearance instantly caught people's attention. Intrigued by its looks, we wanted to know if the bike performed as well as it looked. So we got the Aera and took it for a test ride for a couple of days. Here's what we found out:
Matter Aera: Design & Features
The Matter Aera 5000 is packed with an array of impressive features that elevate the riding experience to new heights. Embracing cutting-edge technology, this electric bike boasts 4G connectivity, keyless operation, and a seven-inch LCD touchscreen display with onboard navigation, providing riders with access to essential information at their fingertips. The Matter Aera 5000 runs on a 10.5kW motor which is in fact, a liquid-cooled unit, a first for an electric bike in India. It can generate an impressive 520Nm of torque. To power this motor, the bike has a 5kWh battery pack, also liquid-cooled, which helps it travel a distance of 125km to 150km, depending on the model you choose.
The Aera 5000 is convenient to charge as it supports both standard and fast-charging using a common connector. It comes with a 1kW charger that is built into the bike. If you don't have access to a fast charger, you can use a regular 5A, three-pin plug point that you typically find in bedrooms to charge it. With the on-board charger, the bike can be fully charged in less than five hours, making it ready for your next adventure in no time.

The Matter Aera 5000 features a telescopic fork and dual gas-charged shocks. For reliable braking performance, the bike is equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels. To enhance safety, dual-channel ABS is incorporated, providing added stability and control during braking maneuvers.
Matter Aera: Dimensions
The Matter Aera in no way is a large bike. It looks every bit compact and it’s the exact same way to ride in the real world. Flickability is amazing and that combined with the sheer torque on offer makes it quite a delightful commuter. Its compact dimensions means it can handle city duties very well.
And hauling all that firepower to a stop are the solid brakes. They have a lot of feel and bite and no matter what speed you’re doing, you can bank on them to come to a halt almost immediately.

Matter EV announced the pricing for its bikes earlier this year. The Aera 5000 electric bike comes in two variants - the Aera 5000 priced at Rs. 1,43,999 and the Aera 5000+ priced at Rs. 1,53,999. These prices are ex-showroom and include the FAME II subsidy. The prices for the Aera 4000 and 6000+ models are yet to be revealed and will be announced at a later date.
Verdict
All in all, the Matter Aera definitely impressed us a fair bit. Despite being a relatively new brand, Matter has managed to create a motorcycle that's not only sporty and fun to ride, but also quite reliable. We found the Aera's DTE readings to be quite accurate.
In fact, they were a whole lot more accurate than some of the much more expensive electric motorcycles we've ridden. So we were definitely impressed with us, and that excites us as to what its older siblings could have in store.
