The two-wheeler sector in India experienced a remarkable 17% growth in 2023, with a total of 15.86 million units sold. Projections for 2023-24 indicate a positive outlook with expected growth in the range of 9-12%.

Currently, there are 14 prominent two-wheeler manufacturers in India, including Bajaj, Hero, Honda, Royal Enfield, TVS, Suzuki, Piaggio, Yamaha, Harley Davidson, Mahindra, Triumph, Kawasaki, BMW Motorrad, KTM, and Husqvarna. Despite the continuous introduction of new models by these manufacturers, the sales trends suggest that a few popular models continue to dominate the market.

Here is a list of the top-selling bike models in India, providing insights into the preferences of Indian consumers.

1. Hero Splendor Plus - 25,94,139 units

Renowned for its economy and reliability, the Hero Splendor has consistently led the charts as one of the best-selling bikes in India throughout 2023.

With enduring popularity in semi-urban and rural areas, the Splendor Plus model has been a fixture in the Indian market for nearly two decades since its introduction in 2004. Its success is attributed to its reliability, fuel efficiency, and cost-effective maintenance, making it a front-runner in the two-wheeler market.

The bike boasts a 97 cc engine with programmed fuel injection and an integrated braking system. It offers three variants: drum brake, i3S, and black and accent edition.

2. Hero HF Deluxe - 5,27,978 units

Another dominant player in the list of best-selling bikes in India is the Hero HF Deluxe, a commuter bike available in five variants. Powered by a robust engine delivering 8 HP at 8,000 rpm and 8.05 Nm torque at 6000 rpm, this bike features a 4-speed manual gearbox.

It's worth noting that the Hero HF Deluxe model produced in 2020 was the first entry-level motorbike to comply with BS-VI emission standards.

3. Bajaj Platina - 4,07,456 units

Introduced in 2006, the Platina remains one of the most sought-after commuter bikes in India. Despite a slight decline in sales from the previous year, the Platina maintained its position among the top-selling bikes in the country.

Boasting a potent engine producing 8.5 bhp power and 9.81 Nm torque, this bike excels in day-to-day commutes. Bajaj Platina offers three models: Platina 100, Platina 110 ABS, and Platina 110 Drum.

4. TVS Raider - 4,60,528 units

The TVS Raider 125, a relatively recent entrant in the 125 cc segment, quickly gained popularity, securing its position as one of the top-selling motorcycles in India. It features a five-speed gearbox, disc brakes on both wheels, and a synchronized braking system.

Available in four variants and five colours, the Raider 125 comes with a BS6 engine, boasting 11.2 bhp power at 7500 rpm and 11.2 Nm torque at 6000 rpm. 

5. Bajaj Pulsar series - 4,11,000  units

Another entry from Bajaj securing a spot in the top 10 selling bikes in India is the Bajaj Pulsar, offering seven different models in the market. In this series, the cheapest model features an engine producing 11.8 bhp power and 11 Nm torque, while the most expensive model boasts an engine generating 24.5 bhp power and a torque of 18.7 Nm. 

6. Honda Shine - 3,44,516 units

Earning a spot in the top 10 selling bikes in India, the Honda Shine caters to the country’s mass-market sector. Available in four variants, the Honda Shine's engine produces a maximum power of 10.74 bhp and peak torque of 11 Nm.

Packed with features like 18-inch wheels, preload-adjustable suspension, and a Combined Braking System, this bike is offered in seven colour options.

7. Hero Glamour - 3,01,543 units

The Hero Glamour blends reliability with style. Equipped with features such as new graphics, a fully digital console, tank shrouds, a mobile charging port, and a long and stepped-up seat, this premium commuter bike is popular in the Indian two-wheeler market for its excellent mileage and low maintenance cost.

8. TVS Apache RTR 160 - 2,22,234  units

Regarded as one of the best street bikes in India, the TVS Apache RTR 160 is widely used for commuting in the country’s rural areas. Known for its durability and low maintenance requirements, this bike features an engine generating 17.31 bhp and 14.73 Nm torque.

The latest model available in the market comes with complete digital instrument clusters in three riding modes: urban, sports, and rain.

9. Royal Enfield Classic 350 - 2,13,688  units

Despite its higher price tag, the RE Classic 350 continues to be one of the best-selling bikes in India. This cruiser bike offers six variant models, each with its own specifications.

The least expensive variant of the RE Classic 350 features a single-cylinder engine capable of generating 19.1 bhp power and 28 Nm torque. With comfortable seating and a smooth riding experience, it is an ideal choice for a touring bike.

10. Hero Passion - 1,17,000  units

Securing the 10th spot in the list of most sold bikes in India, the Hero Passion is available in three variants. The Passion Pro, a commuter bike, features an engine power of 8.2 bhp and 8.05 Nm torque. Offered in various colours and variants, including Passion Plus, Passion XTEC, Passion Pro, and Passion Xpro.
