Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Set to Launch in India

News by Drivio | 11 May 2026

Bajaj Auto appears to be gearing up for a significant cruiser lineup shake-up. The Avenger Street 220 has been listed on Bajaj's official website, strongly signalling an imminent India launch — though no official date has been confirmed yet. Simultaneously, the Avenger Street 160 has been quietly removed from the website, leaving the Cruise 220 and the upcoming Street 220  as the only two Avenger models currently listed. It is a deliberate consolidation around the more capable 220cc platform, and cruiser enthusiasts have every reason to take notice.

Engine & Performance

The Avenger Street 220 is expected to draw power from the same 220cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the Avenger Cruise 220 — producing 19 hp at 8,500 rpm and 17.6 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The fuel-injected motor is built to comply with current emission norms, delivering crisp throttle response, while its oil-cooling system helps sustain consistent performance during prolonged urban idling. Compared to the outgoing Street 160's 15 hp and 13.7 Nm, the upgrade is substantial and long overdue.

Chassis, Ergonomics & Handling

The Street 220 is expected to measure 2,210 mm in length with a 1,490 mm wheelbase and a gross weight of 310 kg. Its most defining departure from the Cruise lies in its riding character. The Street gets a lower, flatter handlebar, alloy wheels in place of wire-spoke units, and a predominantly blacked-out aesthetic rather than the Cruise's chrome-heavy styling. Without the Cruise's tall touring windshield, the Street 220 promises a nimbler, more city-friendly demeanour. Braking duties are expected to be handled by a 280 mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum brake.

Features & Design

The Street 220 is likely to be offered in red and black colour options, with blacked-out components reinforcing its urban street character. A semi-digital instrument cluster, halogen headlights, and a sporty pillion backrest are expected to be part of the package — practical, purposeful, and visually distinct from the chrome-draped Cruise.

Expected Price & Verdict

With the Avenger Cruise 220 currently priced at Rs. 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom), the Street 220 is expected to be priced a few thousand rupees lower — potentially making it one of the most accessible 220cc cruisers in the Indian market. The Avenger Street 220 is clearly aimed at urban riders who want a low seat height, genuine cruiser personality, and effortless city agility — without paying for touring-spec hardware they may never use. If Bajaj prices it right, this could be exactly the shot in the arm the Avenger brand needs.
