More Than 6 Crore Hondas Have Been Sold In India!

News by Team Drivio | 29 Mar 2024

And of course a big part of that have been the Activas

  • Honda first began its two-wheeler operations in India in 1999
  • And in just 25 years, the Japanese brand has surpassed the 6 crore sales figures
  • In between this, the brand also launched its big bike vertical, Honda BigWing

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has indeed reached significant milestones, highlighting its impressive journey in the Indian two-wheeler market. Achieving the monumental 6 crore domestic sales milestone in March 2024 serves as clear evidence of Honda's steadfast commitment to reliability and efficiency. This accomplishment marks a pivotal moment in its distinguished history.

In 2001, HMSI introduced its inaugural two-wheeler, Activa, laying the foundation for its remarkable trajectory in the country. The top-selling Indian scooter continues to be a winning proposition many years later. In fact, here is a quick lowdown onto all the Activa models that have gone on sale in India:

Activa Model
Honda Activa 125
Honda Activa i
Honda Activa 3G
Honda Activa 4G
Honda Activa 5G
Honda Activa 6G

In fact, given how many Activas the brand still manages to sell, it is not surprising to see that these many Activas actually ever existed in India.

Subsequently, in 2002, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India initiated its exports, expanding its operations beyond the domestic market. Venturing into exports showcased Honda's confidence in the quality and competitiveness of its products, paving the way for further growth and success in the years to come. Why the Honda Activa brand was an instant hit in India was because of the Activa’s smoothness and just how refined the overall product felt. It was leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in that day and age.

Eventually, Honda also brought some of its best bikes from the international portfolio. We saw bikes like the Honda CB500X, the Goldwing, CB1000RR and even the Africa Twin finally on sale in India. That said, over the past couple of months, Honda’s pricing game has been all over the place. Apart from its regular everyday mundane commuters, the brand has not been able to price any of its products nicely and that is one of the main reasons as to why Honda BigWing has such dismal sales numbers.
