Bajaj and Hero Sales in May 2025: A Complete Analysis of Growth and Decline

India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturers — Bajaj Auto and Hero MotoCorp — have released their sales data for May 2025. While Bajaj Auto posted strong year-on-year (YoY) growth driven by robust export numbers and popular models like Pulsar and Platina, Hero MotoCorp witnessed a significant month-on-month (MoM) recovery but continues to face year-to-date (YTD) sales pressure.

Bajaj Auto Sales May 2025: Growth Driven by Exports and Popular Models

Bajaj Auto reported total sales of 3,84,621 units in May 2025, marking an 8% YoY increase compared to 3,55,323 units in May 2024. The positive momentum is largely attributed to growing demand in international markets and consistent domestic performance of models like Pulsar, Platina, and the electric Chetak.

Bajaj Two-Wheeler Sales Performance:

  • Total two-wheeler sales: 3,32,370 units (up 9% YoY)
  • Domestic two-wheeler sales: 1,91,412 units (up 2% YoY)
  • Two-wheeler exports: 1,40,958 units (up 20% YoY)

Bajaj Commercial Vehicle Segment:

  • Total CV sales: 52,251 units (up 5% YoY)
    • CV exports: 17,930 units (up 37% YoY)
    • Domestic CV sales: 34,321 units (down 7% YoY)

Bajaj YTD Sales (April–May 2025):

  • Total sales: 7,50,431 units
  • Domestic two-wheeler sales: 3,80,027 units (down 6%)
  • Two-wheeler exports: 2,70,280 units (up 12%)
  • CV exports: 33,803 units (up 23%)
  • Domestic CV sales: 66,321 units (down 4%)

Bajaj’s continued focus on exports and popular models like the Pulsar NS200, N160, and Platina have helped the brand remain resilient. The rising acceptance of the Chetak electric scooter further strengthens its urban portfolio.

Hero MotoCorp Sales May 2025: Strong MoM Growth, But YTD Performance Under Pressure

Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, reported total sales of 5,07,701 units in May 2025. This includes a mix of bestselling motorcycles such as Splendor Plus, HF Deluxe, Glamour, Xtreme 125R, and scooters like Destini 125.

Month-on-Month Growth (vs April 2025):

  • Total sales: Increased by 66.24%
  • Motorcycle sales: Increased by 66.09%
  • Scooter sales: Increased by 68.44%
  • Domestic sales: 4,88,997 units (up 69.48% MoM)
  • Exports: 18,704 units (up 10.79% MoM)

Hero YTD Sales (April–May 2025):

  • Motorcycle sales: 7,61,253 units (down 21.34%)
  • Scooter sales: 51,854 units (down 18.95%)
  • Domestic sales: 7,77,521 units (down 21.68%)
  • Exports: 35,586 units (down 8.66%)

While Hero MotoCorp's May sales bounced back strongly after a slow April, the brand continues to face a decline in cumulative YTD performance. The Splendor series remains a strong performer, especially in rural and semi-urban regions, while the Xtreme and XPulse cater to the premium commuter and adventure categories.

Bajaj Outpaces Hero with Export-Led Strategy

May 2025 showcased contrasting performances between the two manufacturers. Bajaj Auto’s export-driven growth, aided by a strong product lineup across segments and markets, helped deliver positive YoY gains. Hero MotoCorp, despite an impressive MoM recovery, continues to grapple with a YTD decline, suggesting the need for more aggressive domestic strategies and refreshed offerings.

With evolving customer preferences, competitive pricing, and electrification gaining momentum, both companies are likely to intensify efforts in new product development and portfolio expansion in the coming months.
