Bajaj Auto Sales August 2025: Domestic Slide, Exports Surge

by | 13 Sep 2025

Bajaj Auto reported overall sales of 4,17,616 units in August 2025, marking a 5% year-on-year increase over August 2024. The growth was entirely driven by strong export performance, while the domestic market contracted—especially in the two-wheeler segment.

Export Performance vs Domestic Demand

Exports were the clear growth engine in August. Bajaj Auto shipped 1,85,218 units overseas, up 29% YoY from 1,43,977 units last year. In contrast, domestic wholesales fell by 8% YoY to 2,32,398 units, down from 2,53,827 units a year ago. Two-Wheeler Segment

Two-wheelers, which form the bulk of Bajaj’s business, saw modest growth overall — up about 2% to 3,41,887 units from 3,35,178 units in August 2024. But breaking that down: domestic two-wheeler sales dropped sharply (down 12% YoY to 1,84,109 units), while exports of two-wheelers rose 25%.

Commercial Vehicle & Other Segments

The commercial vehicle (CV) segment bucked the domestic decline, posting 21% YoY growth overall with 75,729 units sold. Exports in this segment surged 58% to 27,440 units, while domestic CV sales also edged ahead 7% to 48,289 units.

Year-to-Date (April-August) Trends

For April-August 2025, total sales stood at 18,94,853 units, up 2% from 18,54,029 in the same period last year. However, domestic volumes fell 9%, whereas exports rose 21% to 8,44,504 units.

Conclusion

Bajaj Auto’s August 2025 performance underlines a clear bifurcation: exports are powering growth, while domestic demand—especially for two-wheelers—is weakening. Though commercial vehicles show resilience at home, the drop in local demand for the bulk of its two-wheeler portfolio signals the need for strategic responses. As the festive season approaches, Bajaj will need to lean on strong export momentum and perhaps incentivize domestic uptake to balance the scales. For investors and stakeholders, the takeaway is that Bajaj’s global markets are its current strength—its domestic market requires attention to regain growth.
