2026 Bajaj Dominar 400: 350cc Engine, Rs. 2.03 Lakh Price

The touring motorcycle segment in India just got a significant shake-up. Bajaj Auto has officially launched the 2026 Dominar 400, now powered by a revised 349.13cc engine, at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 2,03,214 — a compelling Rs. 37,000 reduction from its predecessor. This isn't a budget cut dressed as an update; it's a calculated engineering and taxation play that makes one of India's most capable tourers more accessible than ever.

Engine & Performance

The headline change is a downsized engine, but the story is more nuanced than the numbers suggest. Bajaj reduced the displacement from 373cc to 349.13cc by shortening the stroke from 60mm to 56.1mm while keeping the bore unchanged at 89mm. The result? The 349cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine now produces 40.6 hp at 9,000 rpm and 33.2 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm — a marginal gain of 0.6 hp in peak power, though torque drops by 1.8 Nm compared to the outgoing model.

Crucially, the torque now arrives earlier in the rev range, which could improve rideability in city conditions. The unit remains paired with a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch— a setup that smooths out hard downshifts and reduces rider fatigue across long-haul rides.

The driving force behind the downsizing is fiscal rather than mechanical. The displacement change qualifies the Dominar for an 18 per cent GST rate, whereas engines exceeding 350cc attract a 40 per cent tax — a structural difference Bajaj has passed on in full to the buyer.

Chassis, Suspension & Braking

Bajaj has retained the perimeter frame, which has always given the Dominar its stable character on highways and rough patches. The suspension setup — upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock — carries over unchanged, continuing to balance planted highway behaviour with adequate compliance on broken roads. The new Dominar now weighs 190 kg, trimming 3 kg from the outgoing version's 193 kg kerb weight — a modest but meaningful improvement for urban manoeuvrability. Braking is handled by discs at both ends with dual-channel ABS as standard.

Features & Pricing Context

The Dominar 400 continues to offer USD forks, adjustable rear suspension, four ride modes, traction control, dual-channel ABS, and a digital console — a feature list that remains untouched despite the lower price. The motorcycle is available in two colour options: black and green.

Verdict

The 2026 Bajaj Dominar 400 is a rare example of a motorcycle becoming meaningfully more affordable without compromising its core identity. The marginal torque reduction is a paper statistic that real-world touring riders will never feel. What they will notice is a price tag that now sits firmly within reach of a broader audience. For the long-distance enthusiast, weekend tourer, or aspiring sport-tourer on a budget, the 2026 Dominar 400 delivers the same road-eating capability at a price that is genuinely hard to argue against. This is smart motorcycling for smart buyers.
