Bajaj Dominar 400 Price Cut by ₹37,000: Here's Why
by Drivio | 9 Apr 2026
The Bajaj Dominar 400 has just become a significantly more compelling proposition in the Indian power-cruiser segment. A new 350cc engine under the tank has triggered a lower 18% GST bracket, bringing the ex-showroom price down by as much as ₹37,000 — from ₹2.40 lakh to ₹2.03 lakh. For a motorcycle already known for punching well above its price point, this is a game-changing development for budget-conscious performance riders.
The GST Play: Same Name, Smarter Engine
The price reduction is not the result of a feature downgrade — it's a calculated engineering and taxation strategy. Despite the displacement dropping from 373.3cc to 349.13cc, Bajaj has retained the '400' badge — a deliberate branding decision to protect the motorcycle's market perception, mirroring the same approach taken with the Triumph 400 series co-developed with Bajaj. Calling it a '350' could have unfairly signalled a step-down to buyers accustomed to the Dominar's flagship status.
Engine & Performance
The new 349.13cc motor reportedly produces 40.4 bhp and 33.2 Nm of torque — a gain of approximately 1 bhp over the outgoing unit, achieved by shortening the stroke from 60mm to 56.1mm while retaining the same 89mm bore. The torque figure sees a modest reduction of 2.8 Nm, but the revised short-stroke character should deliver a rev-friendlier power band suited to both highway cruising and spirited riding. Liquid cooling and DOHC architecture remain intact, ensuring thermal efficiency and refinement at high speeds.
Features & Technology
The Dominar 400 continues to carry its full technology stack into this new iteration. The 2025 model had already introduced ride-by-wire with four riding modes — Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-road — along with a bonded glass LCD instrument cluster borrowed from the Pulsar NS400Z. A traction control system, 320mm front disc with radial caliper, and dual-channel ABS round out a safety suite that few rivals can match at this price point. The signature LED quad-beam headlamp, USD front forks, slipper clutch, and touring-friendly bungee hooks remain standard.
Verdict: The Value Just Got Undeniable
The Bajaj Dominar 400 was always a rational choice for riders seeking a capable, long-distance sports tourer under ₹2.5 lakh. With the new 350cc engine slashing the asking price to ₹2.03 lakh, it now decisively undercuts rivals like the Triumph Speed 400 and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, while offering a comparable — and in some areas superior — feature set. For the highway-obsessed rider who wants genuine performance, touring practicality, and modern electronics without stretching the budget, the new Dominar 400 is arguably the most complete package in its class today.
