KTM 390 Duke Price Hiked by Rs 40,000 — Here's Why
by Drivio | 8 Apr 2026
The KTM 390 Duke has just become significantly more expensive in India. KTM has announced a price increase of Rs 40,000 for the 390 Duke, with the move likely stemming from Bajaj's decision to no longer absorb the additional GST-related costs that came into effect last September. For buyers tracking the segment closely, this revision changes the calculus around India's most feature-loaded sub-400cc naked streetfighter.
The GST Factor: Why the Price Jumped
The root cause is regulatory. The price revision comes in response to the 40% tax applicable to motorcycles with engine capacities exceeding 350cc. When this higher GST rate was announced, Bajaj chose to absorb the additional tax burden for affected KTM bikes rather than passing it on to customers — a move that allowed the 390 Duke's pricing to remain stable while competitors raised theirs almost immediately. hat protective buffer is now gone.
The KTM 390 Duke now costs Rs 3.39 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. As a result of the increase in the ex-showroom cost, the on-road price has breached the Rs 4 lakh mark and now stands at Rs 4.07 lakh. Those who have already booked the 390 Duke will be required to pay the updated price at the time of delivery.
What You Get for Rs 3.39 Lakh
Despite the higher sticker price, the 390 Duke's hardware remains one of the strongest propositions in the segment. At its heart is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 46 hp and 39 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter. For 2025, KTM added cruise control borrowed directly from the 390 Adventure, further enhancing the Duke's versatility on the highway.
The motorcycle comes generously equipped with launch control, three rider modes (Rain, Road, and Track), traction control, cornering ABS, and a 5-inch TFT display shared with the KTM 390 Adventure range. By any measure, the technology package punches well above its price class — even at the revised figure.
The 350 Duke Is Coming
KTM appears to have engineered this pricing gap deliberately, positioning the 390 Duke further upstream ahead of an upcoming 350cc Duke. The 350cc version will attract a much lower GST rate of 18%, allowing KTM to price it more competitively — likely making it the accessible entry point, while the 399cc model serves performance-focused buyers. Dealers confirm that both variants will be available at showrooms from the second week of April, giving buyers a clear choice between the lower-priced 350cc model or the full-blown 390 Duke experience.
Verdict: Buy Now or Wait?
The KTM 390 Duke remains the benchmark for feature-rich, performance-oriented naked bikes under Rs 4 lakh on-road. The Rs 40,000 hike stings, but the engineering on offer — the tractable 399cc motor, the class-leading electronics suite, and the razor-sharp chassis — justifies the premium for riders who want the complete package today. There is no official word yet on when the RC 390 and 390 Enduro will see similar revisions, but similar updates are expected to follow. Riders on a tighter budget, however, would be wise to wait for the 350cc Duke — a bike that could redefine value in the segment before the year is out.
