The spotlight turns bright as Yamaha passes down full GST cuts to the Indian market: the Yamaha R15 sees its price fall by ₹17,581 to ₹1,94,439, while the MT15 drops ₹14,964 to ₹1,65,536—effective from 22 September 2025.

Engine & Performance

  • Yamaha R15 V4 / R15M: Powered by a 155 cc liquid-cooled SOHC, 4-valve VVA engine delivering 18.1–18.4 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm. It rides on a Delta-Box frame with a 6-speed gearbox, assist/slipper clutch, and hits top speeds around 140 km/h with claimed mileage between 45–51 kmpl.
  • Yamaha MT-15 V2: Matches R15’s engine layout (155 cc, liquid-cooled, VVA) with similar power and torque. The DLX variant features a colour TFT display with turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth Y-Connect, traction control, alloy swingarm, and a curb weight of 141 kg.

Chassis & Handling

  • R15: Sporting race-inspired twin LED DRLs, USD front forks, linked rear mono-shock, Deltabox frame, and dual-channel ABS. Its lightweight build and sharp ergonomics enhance track-like handling and agility.
  • MT-15: Designed as a street-naked counterpart, it inherits the R15’s agile frame and suspension but offers upright ergonomics. The addition of traction control and refined steering geometry boosts urban and dynamic riding control.

Technology & Features

  • R15: Loaded with rider aids—traction control, quick-shifter (standard on R15M and optional on some variants), Bluetooth-connected digital console, ride modes, LED lighting, and smartphone alerts via Y-Connect.
  • MT-15 V2: Elevates convenience with the full-color TFT with navigation, advanced Y-Connect features like maintenance reminders and parking location, traction control, and aggressive styling that complements its streetfighter persona.

Conclusion
With the festive GST reprieve, the Yamaha R15 and MT15 deliver even stronger value—combining spirited 155 cc engine performance, premium handling, and tech-rich features now at significantly lower price points. The R15 remains the go-to for sportbike enthusiasts craving sharp dynamics and track-ready features, while the MT15 appeals to riders seeking aggressive styling, everyday usability, and navigation-driven tech. Both now shine brighter on affordability and build a compelling case for riders eyeing performance and practicality in one package.
