Suzuki Gixxer vs Yamaha FZ FI: Design & Features

Reviews by Team Drivio | 16 May 2024

Both the Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ FI are the default choices if you want a muscular and top-quality 150cc motorcycle, but there’s a clear winner between the two in the end – just for one big reason!

  • The Suzuki Gixxer gets a few additional features over Yamaha FZ FI, such as an LED tail lamp, split pillion grab rails, split seats and double barrel exhaust pipe
  • Both the motorcycles here come equipped with the same suspension setup and tyre combination, along with single-channel ABS
  • The 149cc single-cylinder engine of the Yamaha FZ FI is slightly lesser power than the 155cc single-cylinder mill of the Suzuki Gixxer

Both the Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ FI were completely overhauled ahead of the implication of BS6 emission norms. With thoroughly evolved design languages, the Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ FI look more appealing than their erstwhile versions, especially the Gixxer.

When you compare both motorcycles, the Gixxer looks like the more muscular motorcycle out of the two. Yamaha has toned down the muscularity and sportiness of the FZ FI, which now looks more commuter than a sports bike.

Both motorcycles come with modern LED illumination setups for their headlamps and fully-digital instrument consoles. But the Suzuki GIxxer feels one level up over the Yamaha FZ FI with additional features like an LED tail lamp, split seats, split pillion grab rail and double-barrel exhaust pipe.

While the quality levels of both the motorcycles are equally good, with both showcasing the typical Japanese flair, it is the Gixxer that marginally feels more desirable and premium over the FZ FI.

Suzuki Gixxer vs Yamaha FZ FI: Engine & Gearbox

Both Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ Fi get air-cooled, single-cylinder engines, though the 155cc engine of the Gixxer is marginally bigger than the 149cc engine of the FZ FI. The displacement advantage is evident in the performance figures too, with the Gixxer’s engine being marginally more powerful and more torquey over that of the FZ FI.

Suzuki Gixxer vs Yamaha FZ FI: Suspension, Tyres & Brakes

Under their brawny-looking skins, both Suzuki Gixxer and Yamaha FZ Fi have more or less the same motorcycles, with similar mechanical components. Both the motorcycles get the same suspension (41mm telescopic forks at the front and rectangular swingarm with adjustable mono-shock) and the same set of tyres (100/80-17 front and 140/60 R17 rear).

However, while the FZ FI has the larger disc brake, the rear disc brake of the Gixxer is larger in comparison.

Suzuki Gixxer vs Yamaha FZ FI: Dimensions

With it being the longer and wider motorcycle of the two, the Suzuki Gixxer affirms its sportier appeal over the Yamaha FZ FI. However, it is the FZ FI which has higher ground clearance, lower seat height and lower kerb weight, which makes it the easier motorcycle to ride among the two, especially for newer riders, though the difference is marginal.

Suzuki Gixxer vs Yamaha FZ FI: Price

Both the Yamaha FZ FI and Suzuki Gixxer are available in only one variant, which makes this comparison even more simplified. Priced at Rs 1,13,700, the Yamaha FZ FI is being offered in two colour options – Metallic Black and Racing Blue.

On the other hand, with a price point of Rs 1,34,800, the Suzuki Gixxer is significantly more expensive compared to the Yamaha FZ FI. The Gixxer is available in colour options like Metallic Triton Blue, Pearl Mira Red and Glass Sparkle Black.

Conclusion

Positioned in the same space as premium 150cc sports commuter, the Yamaha FZ FI and Suzuki Gixxer are the two most expensive motorcycles in the space, when it comes to price-to-package ratio.

While the Gixxer is the better-equipped motorcycle with slightly more power and additional features like a double barrel exhaust pipe, LED tail lamp, split pillion grab rails and split seats, it simply doesn’t justify the steep premium of over Rs 21,000 over the FZ FI.

At the same time, the FZ FI is also decently powerful and muscular, if not more than the Gixxer. But then, the differences are only marginal and can be overlooked. Due to the significant price advantage, the Yamaha FZ FI comes across as a much more sensible option to buy over the Suzuki Gixxer.
